  • Implant site development — When a tooth needs to be removed due to infection, it is not uncommon to lose bone from around the infected tooth. In these cases, various types of bone grafting can be done at the same time the tooth is removed to facilitate the placement of a dental implant at a later date.
  • Implant placement —  This typically occurs after the tooth has been removed and the surrounding bone has had time to heal; the amount of healing time may vary from patient to patient. Implant placement involves preparing a space for the dental implant and then placing the implant in the site of the missing tooth. The implant site may be sutured up or have a healing cap placed over it while the implant is allowed to integrate into the surrounding bone. In some cases, a temporary crown or removable flipper may cover the area of the missing tooth or teeth during the healing process.
  • Implant restoration —  Once the implant is integrated into the surrounding bone and is stable enough for function, we will make an impression of the implant and gum tissues and have our lab fabricate a custom abutment (the part that connects the implant to the crown) and custom crown. The implant crown will blend in naturally with your other teeth and allow you the function and support that you have been missing.
  • Implant maintenance — Once your dental implant restoration is completed, it is important to keep the area clean and infection-free. Dental implants can accumulate plaque and tartar just as natural teeth can. Whether you have just one tooth replaced by an implant or several, a professional cleaning schedule will be necessary to keep your implants healthy. The time interval for these professional cleanings will be determined by your individual needs.
